Every year, Pantone, the company behind the Pantone Color Matching System, declares a particular color “Color of the Year.” Today, Pantone announced it’s 2015 Color of the Year – “Marsala.”
Pantone 18-1438 (otherwise known as “Marsala”) is a warm redish wine color. On it’s website, Pantone describes it as “A naturally robust and earth wine red …” and states that it “… enriches our minds, bodies and souls.”
Chosen each year by a secret meeting of representatives of various color industry and standards groups, the Pantone Color of the Year is selected based on current influences and trends throughout the world. The results of the meeting and the subsequent color trends are published each year and often used by fashion designers and stylists, interior designers, and graphic designers, among others, for inspiration and celebration.
