Google Rolls Out Mobile-Friendly Update

Is your website mobile friendly? If not, you might start noticing some differences in your site’s Google search engine results on mobile devices.

Today, Google announced that it has started rolling out a mobile-friendly update to it’s search algorithm and websites that have “mobile-friendly” pages will now have better rankings on searches done on mobile devices.

According to Google, the search algorithm update will allow mobile users to “more easily find high-quality and relevant results where text is readable without tapping or zooming, tap targets are spaced appropriately, and the page avoids unplayable content or horizontal scrolling.”

While the update only affects searches done on mobile devices (search results on standard screens won’t be affected by the update), it’s an important update and if your site’s web pages are not mobile friendly, you may begin to notice significant decreases in mobile traffic to your website.

What does this mean to business owners?

With more and more internet traffic being generated by mobile devices (and more searches too!), it’s now imperative that your website be mobile friendly – not only to enhance its’ usability on mobile devices, but also now to help with your search results too.
